Formed in 1913 or at least as far as I can tell. The Club is lucky enough to have a marvellous minute book covering the early years which starts in 1913. In those days it was a very special club for professional types only. A mixed fishery though with a variety of waters at Awre, Newent, and even on the Wye at Ross.
An early note from 1919 shows that not a lot has changed in some ways with the club requesting that the secretary " do what was possible with the farmers for the bettering of the waters"
The club boasted 60 to 80 members in the years between the wars but there are some poignant references to their impact. Here is a very revealing debate about the controversial subject of Sunday Fishing!
"Mr Beaker suggested that Sunday fishing should be allowed and that the Byelaws relating thereto be actioned accordingly. After some discussion it was considered inadvisable to alter the Byelaws as so many members were away on the front. It was finally decided that any member wishing to go on Sunday get a permit from the secretary who was empowered to issue some at his discretion"
